Kiyoshi had never been good with making people feel better. It just wasn't his forte - it never had been, and it never would be. Looking back, there had been so many times in his life where his little sister, Kami, had needed comforting...and he just hadn't been able to do that. When they had first started school, there had been this mean girl that had always had it out for Kami. Sometimes she would cry while they walked home from school, and Yoshi had always felt terrible that he couldn't make her feel better. He would try his best...but it would just turn into him stammering a lot, thinking of things to say, and ending up feeling just as bad as she did. And that was with his own sister! When Ren died, he still couldn't come up with the words to make his twin sister stop crying. He sucked at cheering up people. Whether they be strangers, friends, or his own family. Today wasn't any different.
He had been hoping that this man would say that he was alright so that he could just turn back around and forget about it. Yoshi wasn't that lucky. "Well...I could be better actually..." Crap. Well, since he knew that something was wrong, he couldn't just turn around now. Manners didn't allow that and he had been raised to be a good, polite boy. In his mind he chewed over what to say. What should he say? It wasn't like he was going to reach over and pat the guys back. 'There, there' didn't seem to suffice either. Who even said that anymore?
Moving his book from his lap to the ground, Yoshi moved over closer to the man. Not real close, just so that he could stop leaning around the tree - his neck was starting to feel crooked from doing that. He tapped his fingers against the paper back a couple times as he continued to think of a good enough response for this man. Yoshi glanced over at him in an attempt to judge how..not good he was going. But all that came to mind was white the mans hair was. So very very white. Snap out of it, Yoshi! He blinked a couple times, clearing his head of all thoughts about the mans amazing hair. He pulled the lollipop out of his mouth so that whatever he was about to say wouldn't get muffled by it. The teenager twirled the lollipop slowly with his finger, watching it spin around, when he finally replied.
"Well..."
Perhaps he should have thought this out better. Staring at the lollipop, seemingly mesmerized by its spinning, he remembered something. The old woman at the bank had given him two lollipops! Alright, she had given him one and he had stolen the other. But who had to know? He dug it out of his other pocket, then looked at it. A small smile spread out on his face. Maybe for once in his life he might actually cheer someone up! Lollipops always cheered him up. "You can have this, if you want. It's..." Yoshi studied the wrapper. "Cherry flavored. I wasn't going to eat it anyways." That was a lie. However, his life wasn't hanging on the thread of one lollipop, so it was alright. Yoshi extended his hand, holding out the cherry flavored lollipop to the man. It wasn't much, but it was all he had to give.
