“When thou tillest the ground it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength. A fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth” God said to Cain Everyone knows the story. Or at least you should. Adam and Eve’s firstborn son, Cain, was “of the evil one”. After God rejected Cain’s offerings, but accepted his younger brother Abel’s, Cain became enraged. Cain lured his brother to the fields and attacked and killed him. Abel became the first victim, and Cain the first murderer. “Where is your brother Abel” the Lord said to Cain. “I know not,” Cain replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Then He said, “What have you done? Your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground! So now you are cursed [with alienation] from the ground that opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood you have shed. If you work the land, it will never again give you its yield. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth!” The mark was put on Cain, and so he was banished. As punishment for Abel’s murder, Cain was ordered to wander the earth, as he has done since then. Wander the earth and feed off of the blood of humans. It was hundreds, maybe even thousands of years, before he found out he could make other beings like him. Blood Drinkers. Immune to human disease, immune to old age. Stronger, faster. Immortal. He could create companions! The first being he tested his punishment on was chosen carefully. Ramesses the Great, the first emperor of Egypt, was to be a blood drinker as Cain was. Ramesses the Great was to share Cain’s punishment. It wasn’t long before the two parted ways, and Cain made another companion, Tutankhamun. The young king was eager to explore his new power, and quickly abandoned his Maker. The third and final Child of Cain was the final ruler of Egypt, the magnificent Cleopatra. Never would Cain make seven Children of the Blood, as it was said that after seven his punishment would end. Cain chose to wonder in solitude, while the three Egyptian Blood Drinkers made companions of their own. They learned of their powers and of their immortality, creating more like them so that they could all live together for eternity. As the centuries continued on these Blood Drinkers became a problem. Too many were young and too many thought themselves as invincible. They attacked humans at any given chance, and needed to be stopped. But Blood Drinkers didn’t dare kill their own kind. Lamia Latro was soon formed in hopes of getting rid of the Blood Drinkers; who were now given the name vampire. Lamia Latro was made up of both scholars and warriors who started hunting the vampires. The vampires heard of this group, named “vampires hunters” in Latin, and those smart enough hid from the humans. The ones who tried to fight usually got killed, or severely injured. Centuries passed with vampires hiding from Lamia Latro, who grew in numbers as the years went on. By the 16th century Lamia Latro had members in all of the major cities. But now the humans had another force to deal with. People, mainly women, were coming forward as magic users. Beings of the earth who could harvest its power for their own bidding. Witches. (Or Wiccas). Some were volatile and violent, while others were peaceful healers. All, however, were hunted just as the vampires were, and burned at the stake. Vampires refused to help the witches, starting a silent feud between the two races. As it has been for the centuries to come. The witches and vampires never got along, dealing with Lamia Latro in their very different ways. For a long time it seemed as if the order of humans had forgotten about their preternatural enemies. The vampires and witches could be peaceful once again. When the new millennia came, Lamia Latro returned, and much more ruthless than they had once been. The vampires have started attacking the members, while the witches curse from afar. Both races refuse to work together to save themselves, but they may have to. In this world, it’s kill or be killed.
